Leider gibt es dieses interessante Buch immer noch nicht in deutscher Übersetzung, so dass man es nur mit guten Italienischkenntnissen und einiger Ahnung vom sizilianischen Dialekt lesen kann. Camilleri schreibt darin eine Art “Untersuchungsbericht” von einem kollektiven Nonnenselbstmord, der 1945 in dem sizilianischen Kloster Palma di Montechiaro stattgefunden hat, und arbeitet dabei die geistlichen Traditionen dieses Kloster vom Mittelalter bis zu den dramatischen Ereignissen auf, deren Auslöser ein Mordversuch am zu sehr auf der Seite der Armen stehenden lokalen Bischof Peruzzo war. Der Autor lebt seit vielen Jahren als deutscher Gastarbeiter in Polen, hat dort nicht nur Deutsch unterrichtet, sondern ist auch als Kabarettist auf Kleinkunstbühnen aufgetreten, hat in einer vielbeachteten polnischen Fernsehsendung eine wichtige Rolle gespielt, hat das polnische “Wetten dass…?” moderiert und ist Stammgast bei der polnischen Eisenbahn. Er weiß also, wovon er spricht. Außerdem hat er eine coole Schreibe.
